Kensi
Kensi was rescued from the
Shasta County Animal Shelter almost two weeks ago by Jenn Bulmer. She appears to
be a Chocolate Lab/BC mix, somewhere between 9 and 12 months old, and in great
condition. I'm going to guess around 45#. Interestingly enough, as a side
note, her toenails appear very similar to Reno's nails, which never need
clipping. Go figure. She had been at the shelter since July, where she arrived
as a stray. Jenn intervened shortly
before Kensi was scheduled to be euthanized and took her into rescue. Jenn
brought Kensi to the park today for a flyball evaluation. This little dog
totally aced the moving ball and the dead ball. She's fine with the box and the
jumps; she's very athletic and should train very quickly. She has very strong
focus on the ball, even to the exclusion of other dogs. While we were out with
her, other dogs came up to play and she only had eyes for the ball in my hand.
She was friendly with other dogs, but the ball was obviously much more important
to her. She was absolutely engaged with me in the games with the ball, and
enjoyed what we were doing. When the ball was not present, she continued to
relate
to both Jenn and I with direct eye contact, waiting to see what we were going to
do next. Kensi is very intense and very focused.
Jenn had about 30 people of all ages over for Christmas, and Kensi remained in
the house and got along fine with everyone, including small children. I
can highly recommend this dog as a flyball dog prospect. I think she's a natural
who will train fast, love the game, and bond strongly with the people in her
life. She seems to get along fine with other dogs, I don't know about cats or
other animals.
It would be sweet if a Strike Forcer decided to take her, simply so that we
don't have to compete against her further down the road! LOL!
Kensi is free to a good home. She needs a job and ideally should be kept very
busy. If any flyball people travel to Redding to meet her, you are welcome
to stay here if you need a sleepover before you head back home.
Call Jenn at (530) 941-8200 or e-mail her at dogvolunteer@gmail.com. There is a
chance Kensi might spend this weekend at my house while Jenn is out of town. My
